New K9s United specialty license plate now available

Every plate helps protect and advocate for the state’s courageous police K9s

JACKSONVILLE — K9s United, a national nonprofit dedicated to advocating for and supporting law enforcement canines, announces that Florida drivers can now show their support by ordering and displaying the new specialty license plate on their vehicles. Florida drivers can purchase the plate at DMV offices statewide, with $25 from each plate directly supporting K9s United’s mission to protect and serve K9 teams. This initiative provides an opportunity for drivers to contribute to the welfare and safety of law enforcement K9s across the state.

With over 3,000 preorders, this initiative underscores Florida’s strong support for its K9s. Specialty plates have been distributed statewide and are now available for pick up. Supporters can call ahead to confirm availability and do not need a voucher to claim their plate. Drivers who didn’t preorder can purchase a plate at their local DMV or online. Personalized plates require approximately 45 days for processing before mailing.

“We are deeply grateful to Florida drivers for turning the K9s United specialty plate from a vision into reality,” said Debbie Johnson, president and founder of K9s United. “This plate is more than just a fundraiser – it’s a powerful statement of support for the courageous K9s and handlers who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe. Their dedication is unwavering, and with this backing, we can ensure they receive the training, equipment and care they rightfully deserve.”

Johnson added, “We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Governor DeSantis and Representative Bean for championing ‘Fang’s Bill’ – a crucial legislative effort that reinforces protections for Florida’s K9s and paved the way for this specialty plate. We encourage all Florida drivers to order theirs today. Every plate contributes to safeguarding these heroic dogs.”

K9 units are among the most expensive divisions in law enforcement, yet many lack sufficient funding for essential training and equipment. K9s United bridges this gap by providing advanced training and resources at no cost to K9 handlers or their agencies.

Beyond direct support, K9s United is a leading advocate for the welfare of working police dogs, driving meaningful legislative change. The organization played a key role in passing two critical Florida Senate Bills: “Fang’s Bill” (Senate Bill 96) strengthens penalties for harming K9s and mounted units, while Senate Bill 388 ensures injured working K9s receive emergency transport, including by helicopter and EMS, for urgent veterinary care. K9s United is now working to advance these protections at the federal level to benefit police dogs nationwide.

K9s United is a volunteer-driven organization that depends on donations to support and advocate for police K9s. Every contribution helps fund training and essential equipment for K9 teams while advancing laws to protect working dogs.
