CLEWISTON- The Clewiston High School Lady Tigers volleyball program is hosting summer workouts in June. The workouts are open to incoming freshman and all other grade levels at CHS.
The workouts are free to attend and will run on the weeks of June 5, 12, and 19, Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. It’s a great opportunity to learn basic volleyball skills that students will be asked to display at tryouts in the fall before the start of the Lady Tiger’s next season.
Clewiston is coming off an appearance in the district semifinal last year, where they fell to the eventual district champion Estero Lady Wildcats. The Lady Tigers said goodbye to eight seniors at the end of the season last year.
Head coach Victoria Rodriguez says the workouts are a good start for anyone thinking of trying out for the volleyball team later this year, even if you’ve never played volleyball before.
“You don't know until you try,” said Rodriguez. “I have seen many girls come through the gym doors in the summer not knowing anything about volleyball and by the beginning of the season, starting games and being an asset to the team. It's possible.”
Rodriguez recommends girls bring a bottle of water and a hand towel, as well as knee pads if possible.
Half an hour before the first workout on June 5 there will be an interest meeting at 5 p.m. at the CHS gym for the volleyball program. Rodriguez says at the interest meeting she will have all the necessary forms needed for the girls to workout and try out in the fall.
