CLEWISTON — Okeechobee rancher, author, businessman, artist, and cowboy Brad Phares will be in Clewiston to present “The History of Cattle Ranching in Florida” on Friday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at the Clewiston Museum.
The eighth-generation Florida cattle rancher’s presentation will feature photos and stories that share the history of Florida’s cattle ranching industry from his own family’s firsthand perspective. In addition to the program, there will be an exhibition featuring the multi-faceted cowboy’s paintings that highlight the beauty of his life as a rancher in south Florida.
After growing up on a ranch, Phares went to the University of Florida, majoring in agriculture. After furthering his education and obtaining a law degree, he went on to pursue his multiple interests. He didn’t just continue the family tradition of ranching, but he also went on to author several books and pursue his love of art, producing beautiful photographs and paintings that depict life on a Florida cattle ranch and feature beautiful Florida landscapes.
Not only is Phares a cowboy, author, and artist but he is also quite the guy in the kitchen, producing hot sauce, salsa, and preserves! His talent as a businessperson is also evident, with Cowhunters Unlimited (cowhuntersunlimited.com), his family-owned and operated business and website, where he and his wife Sam sell his artwork, books, food products and gear, and where you can find his Between the Beaches podcasts.
The evening’s program is free and open to the public and will be followed by a short reception. In addition to the program, the museum’s admission fee will be waived so that attendees can tour the beautifully renovated galleries and exhibits.
The Clewiston Museum is a private not-for-profit that relies on donations, grants, the support of its members, and fundraising events to remain in operation.
