TAMPA- The Clewiston High School Tiger wrestling team is coming off a successful season which saw them field a wrestler in the state tournament, and they’re already busy preparing for the next season.

Tiger wrestlers were in Tampa on June 8 participating in in the United States Marine Corps (USMC) Sports Leadership Academy wrestling camp. The USMC Sports Leadership Academy hosts over 50 camps around the country focusing on multiple sports including football, basketball, soccer and lacrosse.

The camp featured high level coaches and leaders from throughout Florida helping athletes reach their potential and develop a championship mentality.

Clewiston High School’s William Bussott was recognized by USMC Sports Academy and given a leadership award for his performance with the Tigers varsity squad last season.

Bussott earned a ticket to the Florida High School Athletic Association state tournament last season by finishing third in his weight class. He’s the second wrestler Clewiston has advanced to the state tournament in back-to-back years. Last year, Gumaro Martinez III earned a ticket to the state tournament after placing fourth in his weight class at regionals.

Bussott also won CHS Male Athlete of the year during the CHS Athletic Awards banquet this year. He was recognized for his state tournament performance as well his achievement of over 100 career wins with Clewiston wrestling.

Tiger wrestlers are staying busy all summer. On Tuesdays and Thursdays until July 24 wrestlers are meeting up at the CHS gym for their summer wrestling club.
