Sorority honors legacy of service and scholarship

CLEWISTON — On Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc., Mu Rho Omega Chapter of Belle Glade, gathered to commemorate their founding principles and honor their esteemed founders. The remembrance program took place at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, located at 901 Della Tobias Ave. in Clewiston.

Founded on Jan. 15, 1908, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority proudly celebrates 117 years of being “Supreme in Service” to all mankind. The organization is dedicated to cultivating high scholastic and ethical standards while providing meaningful service to communities. As a nonprofit, the Mu Rho Omega Chapter actively supports the financial needs of its service initiatives across the Western Tri-Cities, including Belle Glade, South Bay, Pahokee, and Clewiston.

Through community fundraising efforts, the chapter provides scholarships to outstanding high school seniors in the Glades area to assist with their postsecondary education. Scholarship applications must be received via mail by Friday, April 11, 2025 addressed to the addressee indicted on the application. Interested students are encouraged to contact their high school counselors for more information on how to apply.
