BELLE GLADE- The Glades Day Lady Gators varsity soccer team has a 10-3-2 record headed into the final game of the regular season.
The Lady Gators went on an impressive seven game win streak in the middle of their season, outscoring opponents 25-3 in that span.
Freshman Amia Ocanas has been a standout, leading the team with 13 goals this year. Senior Kinley Seider has 5 goals this season, while freshmen Trinity Sturgis and Brooke Sisnett each have 3 goals. Lily Davis has 87 saves this year, and has played a big role in keeping Glades Day in games.
Seider leads the team in assists with 4, followed by Madison Baez and Jensen Rimes who each have 2.
The Lady Gators’ winning streak started with a 3-0 victory over the Sports Leadership & Management Lady Cobras on Nov. 10. Next they defeated Moore Haven 5-1, Glades Central 3-0, Trinity Christian Academy 8-0, Atlantic Christian 1-0, Okeechobee 3-2 and the Lady Cobras again 2-0.
Glades Day is coming off back-to-back district championship seasons. The Lady Gators defeated the Trinity Christian Academy Lady Warriors in a 8-0 shutout in the district semifinal on Jan. 30 last year. Then, in the district championship on Feb. 1 2023, Glades day beat Berean Christian 4-3.
Seniors Hana Lohmann and Peyton Pelham led the team in scoring that season, and it wouldn’t have been a surprise if the team took a step back this year after losing them. But the young players have stepped up this season and the Lady Gators look like they haven’t missed a beat.
